Laughter Yoga was founded in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor in Mumbai, India. It is about bringing out our childlike playfulness and embraces the philosophy of “acting happiness.” Research shows that happy people have stronger immune systems, are 35% less likely to get a cold, produce 50% more antibodies in response to flu vaccines than the average person, have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and infections, and live longer. Research also shows that both real and fake laughter influence happiness and provide these health benefits! Laughter yoga thus provides a comfortable environment where it is ok to laugh for no reason, act silly, be childlike, and fully express ourselves. Laughter Yoga also combines Yogic deep breathing with laughter exercises to bring more oxygen to the body and brain, making us feel more energetic and healthy.
